Thank you to all those who attended our season kick-off party last Wednesday night, it was a great success and we enjoyed finally meeting everyone! Our coaching staff is very excited to start the season off strong. This email will be chalked full of information, so fill up your cup of coffee, and hunker down. Here is the rundown of everything covered, skip ahead to points that are important to you:

1.) Paperwork **Everyone please read**

2.) Team lock-in Thursday, June 11th

3.) Private lesson

4.) Parent/coach communication

5.) Feeder program

6.) Apparel

7.) Master's swimming for parents and adult CCC members

8.) Coaching staff

1.) PAPERWORK

One concussion waiver form per child MUST be completed before every swimmer enters the water on day one of practice. This is non-negotiable.  In the Cherokee informational sheet, the most important section is what meets you can attend and home meet volunteer information. Copies will also be available at the pool. Please be sure the attached three documents are completed and turned in before practice on Tuesday...

A.) Concussion waiver (one per swimmer)

B.) GKAISA Registration (one per family)

C.) Cherokee information sheet (one per family)

2.) LOCK-IN FOR 11 AND UPS THURSDAY, JUNE 11TH

CCC will have their annual overnight lock-in following our first home meet with Beaver Brook CC for all swimmers 11 and up on June 11th. This is a great way to celebrate our early season success! CCC will be catering, and bowling, video games, movies, and plenty of fun will be on the agenda. This event will require all participants and parents to complete a waiver, as well as handing over car keys for all swimmers 16 and up. More information will be provided in the coming weeks! Please contact one of the coaching staff if you are interested in helping chaperone this event.

3.) PRIVATE LESSONS

We cannot stress enough the importance of technique as the primary way for swimmers to see performance improvements, and believe that all swimmers will greatly benefit from one on one work.  Private lessons are a great way to enhance your swimmer's technique. Myself, Brittany, and Elli have experience teaching private lessons, and have greatly impacted the stroke efficiency of many young swimmers. Proper technique is critical not only for enhancing a swimmers ability to move quickly and effectively through the water, but also aids in decreasing the risk of injury! Contact any of our coaches directly to reserve a lesson slot, and remember availability is limited so the sooner you sign up, the greater the likelihood that you will get your first choice time slot.  For your convenience, we will have registration sheets for each lesson completed, and CCC will bill each member's account directly.

4.) PARENT/COACH COMMUNICATION

My primary form of communication will be weekly emails sent on Sunday evenings.  The other forms of communication are outlined below. All important dates, practice times and the meet schedule are available on Google Calendar. Questions/comments feel free to let us know!

A.) Weekly Sunday evening emails (also available on the blogspot)

5.) FEEDER PROGRAM

Beginning on June 2, the feeder program which is group lessons for new and non-swimmers will be taught by the coaching staff and older CCC swimmer volunteers. We are extremely excited about this program! Please note the typo on the practice schedule from the kickoff party. These lessons will run from 9:00 - 9:30 on MWF and will be at the same time our regular 8 and under practice is held on MW. This will allow us to move our young swimmers around based upon skill and rate of improvement. Ellie has played an intricate role in running this program the past four summers, and Brittany's knowledge with other swim team feeder programs along with her recent completion of Red Cross's 32hr water safety instructor course means this is a great opportunity to introduce your little ones to the water and the excitement of summer swim team. Please reach out to us with any questions/comments.

6.) APPAREL

We are working on apparel orders. These should be available by the second week of practice. This year we are planning on providing a few options for T-shirts, and will be providing more information in the near future. Tank tops will be provided for our seniors again this year!

7.) MASTERS SWIMMING PROGRAM

We are excited to offer a master's swimming program for CCC adults of all ability levels starting Monday, June 1. If you are an adult who is interested in being a part of organized practices with other adults and gain the health benefits of high intensity cardio/low joint impact, an experienced in triathlete, former swimmer, newcomer to the sport, or want to test out swimming to see if you can beat your child, this program is for you. We will offer a mix of both technique and cardio work. Practices will be held MW 7-8pm and T/TH 7:30-8:30am. Please join us this Thursday, May 28th at 7PM for more information and to sign up!!!

8.) REINTRODUCING OUR COACHES!

Again, my name is Sam Davy and I am the head coach. I spent last winter coaching with The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio, and Scioto Country Club, in Upper Arlington, Ohio. I have coached at the Longhorns Swim Camp in Austin, Texas, the Nike Swim Camps in Seattle and Los Angeles, the Harvard Swim Camp in Boston, Massachusetts and at smaller scale camps in Central Wisconsin.

Brittany Oxley is our lead assistant coach. She has been working as a substitute teacher for Knox Co, and will be leaving for officer training school with the Air Force in the fall where she will serve as a security forces officer. She has been the head swim coach for Crestwood Hills and Westside YMCA and Crestwood Hills as well as the assistant swim coach for University Club and Berean Christian High School. She was a state champion and All American swimmer for Bearden High School, as well as a DIII national qualifier for Denison University.

Ellie Martin rounds out our coaching staff. Ellie graduate from The Webb School of Knoxville this spring, and will be attending Wofford College in the fall. Ellie started summer swimming at CCC when she was nine years old and has stayed with the team her entire summer league career. In addition to summer swimming, she competed for Tennessee Aquatics for five years and was the captain of her high school team. This will be her fifth consecutive year working with the feeder program!

I hope I didn't take up to much of your, which I'm sure I did! I am looking forward to an amazing summer. Again, let me know if you have ANY questions, comments, or concerns.

Thanks for everything, and we look forward to working with this summer.
